On the way Alro took a pacifier which was big! He had only taken one for a short time before this trip.
I struggle with pacifiers. I don't want to deal with a kid who is essentially dependent on a pacifier and need to have one on hand at all times OR ELSE. Plus you have to consider future tooth issues, and possible nipple confusion (is your head spinning yet?). All that stuff went right out the window when driving to Maryland and Arlo started to get a little fussy. I think of this way: If I know there is something that will sooth my child, I'd be crazy not to use it, right??
So Arlo took a pacifier on the drive up and was darn cute doing it.
Before we got to the ceremony site, we stopped to feed the boy. After eating for a very short period of time, the child vomited ALL over himself and me. I'm talking 5+ ounces of baby puke. He smiled seconds after doing it, but it took a little longer for me to get over it. Arlo was able to soak the burp cloth and the muslin blanket we had packed, so Jeff hopped of the car to buy more blankets from Sears in whose parking lot we were parked. This is of course rather ridiculous seeing as there were about 4,000 blankets/cloths sitting at home. Sigh.
Once we got to the wedding Arlo did an amazing job. He fed well, was silent during the ceremony, and didn't mind the loud music during the reception. After another feeding in the (parked) car, he slept all the way home and allowed us to sleep in the next day. Arlo was a dream baby and we had a fantastic time hanging out with old friends.
